Overview

The National Education Association’s Read Across America program will make grants ranging from $250 to $1,000 to public schools serving economically disadvantaged students to purchase diverse books for public school libraries. NEA’s Read Across America has partnered with the NEA Foundation to address the literacy gap by providing educators with the book resources they need to promote life-long reading habits as part of 21st century learning skills. Thanks to generous support of $40,000 from the NEA Foundation, NEA’s Read Across America will award library grants that range from $250 to $1,000 (maximum amount.) NEA’s Read Across America emphasizes the need for diverse books and authors to inspire a growing diverse student population to read. The goal of providing diverse books, authors, and themes is highlighted in the Read Across America resource calendar and poster and online curriculum, which features 36 award-winning books for year-long activities.
